Healthy Snack Ideas for Kids

healthy snacks for kids

Foamed milk drinking AKA baby chino.

Snacks for kids can always be tricky and when they start going to school filling their lunch boxes with things they actually like that are healthy can be even more of an headache.

For instance, my son will never eat an entire sandwich at school so I have to give him snacky things, there has been a lot less wastage since I started doing it too!

Below is a list of ideas that you can use for their lunch box and some are ideas just for home.

  • Dried fruit (apricots, raisins, currents, goji berries, dried cranberries, mango, apple, pear)

  • Whole Grain Cereal

  • Toasted sesame or pumpkin seeds

  • Frozen grapes

  • Fruit juice popsicles (just get some ice-pop moulds then refill with half 100% fruit juice of your choice, half water)

  • Cheese squares

  • Sweet Potato Chips

  • Yogurt

  • Smoothies (let them make their own!)

  • Raw fruit

  • Chopped up vegetables. Use healthy hummus as a dip

  • Baby tomatoes

  • Boiled eggs

  • Date Balls

  • Pita pockets (wholemeal, filled with savory filling of choice)

  • Make a fruit mix with nuts, pretzels, whole grain cereal, banana chips, and popcorn

  • Popcorn (pop it yourself, and don’t add much (if any) salt or sugar)

  • Nuts (be careful of nut allergies)

  • Raisins

  • Whole-grain crackers ( I just put them in his lunch box completely plain)

  • Rice cakes

  • Healthy Breakfast Bars

What I like to do for his lunch box is give him some crackers, baby tomatoes a fruit or dried fruit and a treat like a date ball or a breakfast bar.

My favorite treats I like to buy for him at the shops are:

  • Barni soft cakes, they're shaped like little bears and they're super tasty and have no colorants or preservatives in them!

  • Fruit Bowl Yogurt Flakes, they're yummy fruity flakes covered in real yogurt and they're gluten free.

  • Woolies Rice Crackers, they come in different flavors and they fit in his lunch box perfectly.

I used to love giving him a Squish in his lunch box and he used to love it too but now he's 7 and gets teased that he's eating "baby food", so now we keep those for home!

What healthy snacks do you give your children? Have I left anything out?
