To circumcise your little boy or not to circumcise is always quite a hot debate around parents.

Did you circumcise your son? If so, why? Did you not circumcise him? Why didn't you?

Here are some pros and cons on circumcision

PRO's to circumcise your son

  • Urinary tract infection - circumcision may result in a decreased incidence of urinary tract infections.

  • Penile cancer - circumcised men also might be at lower risk for penile cancer, although the disease is rare in both circumcised and uncircumcised males

  • STDs - decreased risk of sexually transmitted diseases

  • Hygiene - easier genital hygiene

CON'S to circumcising your son

  • Meatatis - circumcision increases the chance of inflammation of the opening of the penis.

  • Painful - the procedure can be painful, especially if no aesthetic is used. According to a comprehensive study, new-born responses to pain are "similar to but greater than those observed in adult subjects

  • Rare Complications - cutting the foreskin too long or too short

  • Infections - There can sometimes be bleeding or infection and improper healing.

Research has shown that there are no overwhelming health-related reasons for circumcision to be routinely performed on all new-born males. It is not a life-or-death procedure,

Therefore, it is a decision best left to the parents.
