While you are pregnant there are certain foods you should avoid while pregnant to maintain your health and your babys health.
You get so much advice from friends and family when you’re pregnant that it can be hard to weed out the good advice from the bad.
We have created a list of foods to avoid while you’re pregnant and the reasons as to why you can’t eat them.
Sushi. Sushi may contain illness-inducing parasites which isn’t safe. But don’t worry sushi lovers, you can still eat California rolls
Eggs. Eggs may be tainted with salmonella which can cause fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. So it’s best to make sure you eat well cooked eggs. Avoid things like egg bases salad dressings, soft scrambles or sunny side up eggs and raw cookie dough.
Some varieties of fish. Although some fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids which are great for your baby’s brain, you shouldn’t eat fish that could be high in mercury which will affect your baby’s nervous system. The problem is that most fish contains traces of mercury so if you are going to eat fish make sure you only eat small quantities.
Unpasteurized Juice. Most juice in the stores are pasteurized but some stores do sell unpasteurized juice so be sure to read the label.
Caffeine. Caffeine has always been a big no when it comes to pregnancy but studies now show that you can have a little bit of coffee so try keep it down to a minimum and it should be fine.
Nitrate-Rich Foods. It is best to stay away from cured meats, hot dogs, bacon and sausage. They aren’t very good nutritional wise. It is best to avoid diet sodas too because of the artificial sweetener.
Alcohol. There are varied studies about alcohol consumption but to be safe its best not to have any. It’s only 9 months of your life and you’ll survive!
The FDA is now saying that you CAN eat soft cheese which was a big no no a little while ago due to the fact that it could contain listeria. You can eat soft cheese as long as it’s made with pasteurized milk. So please be sure to check the labels if you’re going to eat soft cheese.
